Portuguese GM-Free Coalition Plataforma Transgénicos Fora

In Portugal a NGO Platform was created in 1999 which has since been fighting for a GMO-free country and against a huge public information deficit. Besides individual members, there are 11 organisations directly involved in the coalition (AEPGA, Campo Aberto, CNA, CPADA, GAIA, GEOTA, LPN, NDMALO, Palombar, QUERCUS, ZERO), mostly from the environment and agriculture sectors.

In Portugal three regions (the Algarve region and the Madeira and Azores islands) have declared themselves GMO-free.
Additionally, 27 municipalities all over Portugal have passed GMO-free declarations: Alcochete, Alenquer, Aljezur, Amares, Arouca, Barreiro, Cadaval, Coimbra, Constância, Lagos, Loulé, Mértola, Moita, Monforte, Mora, Moura, Odemira, Ponte da Barca, Portimão, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Rio Maior, Salvaterra de Magos, Sintra, Soure, Terras de Bouro, Vila do Bispo and Vila Verde.
